Welsh History in the Making

Based in Llanrwst, at the heart of Snowdonia in North Wales, Siwgr a Sbeis is not only a true Welsh story but a delightful tale about how two women literally ‘got the Valley baking!'

Rhian Owen and Rhian Williams founded Siwgr a Sbeis nineteen years ago. Both school friends went to a bakery and confectionery college together before starting their small venture specialising in the baking and manufacturing of cakes and confectionery for the local population.

In this way they have become one of the most important employers in the area. Thanks to the use of traditional methods, traditional recipes that have been passed down through generations of families, brand new and exciting recipes and the use of new Welsh fine foods that are just emerging on the market place, Siwgr a Sbeis makes for a truly inspiring place to work and many new jobs have been created for local people.

As well as traditional recipes, the company is constantly producing exciting, scrumptious and new ideas to add to their growing repertoire.

The Driving Force Behind the Success

Both Rhians said that the main reason for starting Siwgr a Sbeis was to be able to create a business in which they could work for themselves thereby letting them create a flexibility that works around children and a family life too.

“All our products are made with the kind of care and attention we lavish on our families,” said Mrs Rhian Williams. “Baking is a passion and we train all our staff in traditional methods. That is the secret to our success.”

The Dynamo Project

The Dynamo Programme was launched by the Welsh Assembly Government to create
more entrepreneurially aware young people throughout Wales.

It provides a suite of learning opportunities for young people delivering upon the Youth Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Strategy for Wales (YES).

As part of a network of Dynamo Role Models, who like us are business owners in Wales we love going into schools and colleges to enthuse young people and convey the excitement, and motivations to start a business.
